Inspiring Books for Menopause
Books are a great place to start, to learn about and prepare for your menopause transition. For me, reading was also one of the many joys of creating The Wiser Woman program.
I now have a growing collection of audio and hardcopy books on women’s health and menopause. Every book I’ve read or listened to is a keeper!
I was fascinated reading about the science of the female brain and surprised by the countless ways declining hormones affect women’s health. We’ve all heard of hot flashes and mood swings, but receding gums, tinnitus, and gluteal tendinopathy (ouch!) were news to me.
Common themes centered on rest, mindset, self-care (physical, emotional, spiritual), HRT (pros and cons), and empowerment. But if I had to choose a single textbook for The Wiser Woman, it would be Generation M Living Well in Perimenopause and Menopause by Dr. Jessica Shepherd.
Generation M offers a clear and straightforward roadmap for navigating this transformational time of a woman’s life. It is full of practical advice prescribed in small doses.
Dr. Shepherd does an excellent job describing the ABCs of HRT and walks you through precisely how to talk with your healthcare provider.
Each chapter can stand alone, so it is easy to find advice on a specific topic - sleep, exercise, or your libido - without reading the entire book.
Common advice in all the books I read is not to go it alone. That’s why, I created The Wiser Woman, a small group or bespoke program for women seeking support through their menopause transition.
